THANK YOU! for HackTheWeb. I’ve been changing the maxVersion setting in the same old Aardvark 3 .xpi for many, many FF releases now, always scared that this time it would no longer work even if I could force it to install. I’m really glad somebody is willing to keep this functionality available in FF and develop it further. It’s absolutely my most-needed add-on. Fuller tips hat!

      Hi James,

      Glad you like it.

It would be great if you could add a review here.

      Cheers.

How is HackTheWeb different from Remove It Permanently (RIP)? They seem similar. If I have RIP is there an advantage to adding HTW?

    Thanks.

      Hi Jeff,

HackTheWeb and RIP work well together, In HackTheWeb use the K keystroke and RIP will remember the Hack.

HackTheWeb allows you to re-flow the text into the space you have hacked out as well as other things like: Black-on-White, Isolate, Disengage-width and Lily-White Background.

I have also added Toolbar Buttons and Click support, which makes it quicker to Hack stuff on the fly.

I use HackTheWeb for day-to-day web pages that annoy me (if I use a site a lot I create a script in Stylish).

Like James, I’m delighted to have found a robust and under-development replacement for Aardvark. (Have already posted a 5* review on Mozilla Addons page!)

Question for you: is there a chance you’ll also be adding replacements for the Aardvark “Bookmarklet” and “load from website”, that used to be hosted from the karmatics.com/aardvark/ site? The former was very useful for Seamonkey (my standard browser) when the addon wasn’t being recognized. The latter is great when you’re on a public machine, etc., and the Mozilla browsers available don’t have the addon installed.

In any event, it’s great to have the FF addon back, so thank you for picking this up and running with it!

Possibly something I can look at later but ATM I am concentrating on Firefox and the new tougher security rules, (aardvark was grandfathered in and wouldn’t pass now).

Suggestion for the Hack The Web button from the palette: Separate image for that button when HTW isn’t turned on, w/o the red box in the upper-right corner of that icon. Also, when HTW is enabled, the hover tooltip might read Stop Hack The Web.

Thanks for the suggestion, great minds think alike. 🙂

Its on my “To Do” list. In fact an alternative toggle icon for all the buttons will be implemented eventually.

I’m thinking of the white letter changing to red to indicate its “on”, and as you suggest, having a white box that turns to red for the HTW button.

It would be great if you could show your support for HackTheWeb by adding a review here.
