Hi, long time aardvark user just discovering this. The paste function looks particularly cool, although I have not imagined an excuse to use it yet 🙂

However like this other user, I also found the 15% borders you leave too large for my tastes, I want to eliminate or make them minimal like aardvark does (0 or 1%?) But I cannot for the life of me figure out where to change that preference. When I go to the add-ons panel in my firefox 8.0.1, there is no preference button for your add on (there is for other add-ons).

Maybe I have some other customization getting in the way, or maybe I am just thick, but I would appreciate hints you could give on changing preferences (I went to your advance help page and preferences are not even mentioned)

      Hi Mark,

Check that you are using version 1.1.7 if not install from here. If you are there is no need to change anything as Blog Borders are now off by default in this new version.

Hi! Love the add-on and I find a nice jump forward from Aardvark.

I’d like to see De-width, Black-on-White, and Lily-White un-doable actions like Remove and Isolate are.

Thanks for sharing your tool with is!

      @Peter Thompson

I’ll add those to the wish list, as they would be handy to be able to undo.

Sort-term reload is your friend 😉

Note: Just created Wish List Page.

Hi. I ran across your add-on and a review complaining about difficulty finding a way to contact you. Your response was to link to http://www.instantfox.com/hacktheweb which is the same link given as “support site” on AMO.

Just one question: have you tried visiting it yourself? You should do that right now. Then maybe you will understand why he couldn’t find this place.

Anyway, this looks like a promising replacement for Aardvark. I’ll try it out some time.

Opps! Thanks for pointing out the problem.

      All Fixed now.

You replied to my review points, but there isn’t a forum or email address to ask for help and AMO review isn’t a place for a discussion. So hopefully this will be ok?

The description of HTW is to remove annoying elements from web pages. What it says on the box, what it’s intended to do in the box.

According to your replies though – permanent removal isn’t seen as a main feature, the question about format of saved rules didn’t get answered, and the general response seems to be to use Stylish, a theming program for CSS coders which is far beyond the “point and click” that HTW provides and is out of reach for non-developer users.

What I’m after from HTW or any extension, is to click on an element, and have it removed permanently or temporarily from all sites matching a URL template (* or regex, whichever). That should be pretty easy, but HTW needs more guidance and perhaps a bit of refinement to get it there. That seems to be the usual use and what it’s targeted at so it would be great to see it there!

meantime to save me checking this page, can you post up some support forum link or email link on AMO so the “support site” link works? Thanks!

      Yes this is fine.

True although long term I plan on investigating the possibility of noting the elements changed per site, for use with creating Stylish scripts.

the question about format of saved rules didn’t get answered,

Yeah well as nothing is saved there are no rules to have formats of, at least so far.

and the general response seems to be to use Stylish, a theming program for CSS coders which is far beyond the “point and click” that HTW provides and is out of reach for non-developer users.

True, just pointing ppl in the direction of what I have found to be a working solution, YMMV. Also most of the scripts I have written are very simple, basically hide this, and de-width that.

What I’m after from HTW or any extension, is to click on an element, and have it removed permanently or temporarily from all sites matching a URL template (* or regex, whichever).

Long term it would be great to have changes made in HTW written to a Stylish script but this is at best aspirational.

meantime to save me checking this page, can you post up some support forum link or email link on AMO so the “support site” link works? Thanks!

Sure, you can contact me at silverwav <-removed address after a few hours as it just attracts s pam

HackTheWeb 1.2.3 now offers the ability to save your changes to a script.

Save to Stylish, its the dawn of a new day 😉
